United States vs Mangione

Description

This mock trial will simulate committee proceedings around the case United States v. Mangione as well as the issues surrounding the healthcare and insurance industries of the United States.

Agenda

Day 1: Freeze date of April 17th.

Deliberation on the criminal liability of Luigi Mangione and determination of an appropriate sentence.

Day 2: To evaluate systemic failures and propose legal reforms in the healthcare and insurance industries on the basis of the criminal case of United States v. Mangione

Executive Board

Tanika

Tanika Kapa, moving between Houston and Chennai, is an author and published researcher in the fields of economics and environmental policy, with her work featured in renowned interdisciplinary journals. As of recently, she is working on a historical economics textbook for Central Michigan university. Having set the benchmark as Secretary-General of the largest and most versatile APL MUN till date — the 9th edition— Tanika brings extensive experience in politics and diplomacy to the table along with her other public speaking and debate experiences like WSC. Outside academia, she is a trained professional classical dancer with over 15 performances under her belt. Tanika is excited to be back and bring this committee to new heights.

Varun

Varun is an incoming law student and an aspiring criminal lawyer. He also is a dedicated MUN-ner. He was the Deputy secretary-general for the largest APL MUN to date! This will be his 5th time participating in APL MUN, twice as a delegate, once as a member of the secretariat, and twice as an executive board member. In his free time, Varun enjoys playing the keyboard and watching sports. Having truly seen it all with regards to APL MUN, and as the co-chair of the legal committee, Varun truly believes he can help bring a fresh perspective to MUNs with this set committee, and he looks forward to seeing how delegates can improvise with APL MUN’s unique committee.

Reyansh

Reyansh Srivastava is a student athlete and avid debater. He has been involved with  MUN circuit for five years and is excited to serve on the Executive Board at his own school, APL global. He is always looking to broaden his horizons through extracurricular participation, such as organising large scale charity drives, running case competitions, and completing analytical research. Being the Director of a flagship committee is an honour and he looks forward to guiding delegates through an unforgettable APL MUN 2K25 experience.
