ICJ

Description

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). The ICJ was established through the UN Charter in 1945 ,designed as an improved successor to the Permanent Court of Justice (PCIJ) which fulfilled a similar (but not such a strong role) within the League of Nations. The first President of the ICJ was elected on 1st April 1946, and the first public sitting took place on the 18th in the same month. The ICJ’s first case, the Corfu Channel Case, was submitted by the United Kingdom against Albania in 1947.

Rinee

With valuable experience under her belt, Rinee is excited to chair the first MUN that won her a best delegate award. ICJ and trial committees are becoming her new favourite and she hopes to share her love for such committees with other delegates. She prioritises diplomacy, and accuracy in debates. In her free time, you’ll spot her watching a show or working on her academic blog. Or both – she can’t decide sometimes.

Sahana

Sahana Shriram is a 12th grader in GTAVM, with an impressive experience in over 12+ rights committees, and a passion for hating on crisis comms and delegates (no hate intended), she brings over a sense of passion that you’d see in an overenthusiastic but fearsome delegate. She looks forward to being the Vice-Chairperson for ICJ.

Adity

Adity thrives under pressure in fast-paced environments, quickly adapting to any situation — a shining example of ‘winging it’ with confidence, a skill that’s earned her multiple awards (not just in MUNs!). Reliable, resourceful, and occasionally surviving on sheer determination, she’s thrilled to serve as your director for the ICJ this year, and guarantees an enriching experience. She encourages all delegates to give their absolute best: “If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you’re no longer a racing driver.” In her free time, you’ll find her engrossed in a book or movie, working on a new song, or, more likely, crashing out about Ferrari’s latest strategy blunder.
